Sema

Description

The sema is the whirling ceremony of the Mevlevi order — the dervish's rotation as a form of prayer. Oil and gold leaf on raw canvas, the figure dissolved into centrifugal motion. The background is the colour of the interior of the Rumi shrine at Konya: a deep, almost black green.
